The history of the association
The Friends of the Zither association currently has around 200 members spread across a dozen countries.
It was founded in 1988 by Maguy Gérentet and Francis Gombert to support and coordinate the development of the zither in France.
In 2015, the association's structure was modified to allow for more active participation from members.
Les buts de l'association
The Association's statutes assign it the following objectives (regardless of musical style, playing technique, and instrument making):
- Promoting the chordal zither by promoting exchanges between the different actors of this instrument
- Supporting training individual and group
- Supporting ensemble music with zithers and other instruments
- Supporting the integration of the chorded zither into the liturgy or as an instrument of meditation
- Supporting reflection on the chordal zither
- Inform people interested in the chorded zither
- To organize or support all projects having a connection with the people playingt of the chordal zither
- Implementing services for the benefit of users of the chordal zither
In addition to publishing the Cithare et Harmonie (C&H) newsletter,
It also occasionally organizes conferences or meetings
for the promotion of the instrument.
