Sister Elena GUIDI
professor, editor, composer

A nun of the Fraternity of Mary Immaculate Mother, she studied piano at the Verdi Conservatory in Milan with Maestro Giovanni Carmassi. At the same time, she attended the University of Pisa, where she obtained a degree in foreign languages and literatures with excellent grades, with a musicological thesis on English opera from 1600.
She studied composition with maestro Giuseppe Bruno and began to study the zither under the guidance of zither player Maguy Gerentet.
Starting from the didactic bases of the latter and combining them with piano technique, she developed a new method of approaching the zither whose application finds its expressive culmination in the interpretation of pieces intended for the liturgy.
From this innovative method emerged a completely original pedagogical approach, which encouraged many people to study the instrument. She composed and recorded the collection entitled "Contemplatio" for Edizioni Paoline, the first CD of original music for cittern released in Italy.
She has collaborated with the liturgical office of the CEI, the Catholic University of Milan and the monastery of Bose, participating in important recordings and events as a cittern player.
She practicesand educational activities as a zither teacher, providing instrument lessons in his community (https://www.monasteroiano.org/).
